Is there a service even more spectacular than maintaining offshore wind turbines? It’s hard to imagine: The experts at mh² offshore rappel down the massive structures to inspect welds, bolted joints, and structural components.
“In fact, our employees’ expertise is a key factor in our success. We invest heavily in continuing education,” explains Markus Hummel, CEO of mh² offshore. “We’re also committed to providing seamless services with well-coordinated teams.” For years, a mix of MS Office programs and other standalone solutions was used for management—which came with some challenges: Key performance indicators couldn’t be calculated on a daily basis. “Given our growth, we need more transparency. That was the starting point for implementing the ERP system,” emphasizes Markus Hummel. -
In the next step, the company conducted online research to find a suitable ERP solution. Four vendors made the shortlist.

The implementation began with a two-day on-site workshop.
This provided a clear picture of the requirements while also allowing for targeted discussions on process improvements. The ERP modeling thus went hand in hand with structured management consulting.
In addition, a stable workflow was established with weekly coordination calls to discuss change requests and provide direct support for any questions regarding usage.

Time tracking presented a unique challenge.
mh² offshore uses the SD Worx HR platform for this purpose. It is important to note that employees at sea are credited with a flat rate of 12 hours per workday.
At the same time, the company must document how long employees actually worked.
Mapping this variability in the software was challenging at first—but was ultimately implemented successfully. -

The process is now up to four times faster. All services are stored in the system as “items,” along with custom pricing structures and text modules. This allows quotes to be created with just a few clicks. - Project Management:
Projects are assigned directly to a project manager in the ERP system—including the scope of work, contact information, cost structure, and revenue budget.
“Our project managers thus have all the information they need and can begin detailed planning without delay,” explains Markus Hummel.
The number of workdays spent on a project is also transparently displayed. - Controlling:
Key metrics such as order intake, open projects, and revenue and profit trends can be accessed at any time. “In the past, I could only answer
these questions with significant delay using Excel. Now I simply generate a real-time report in the ERP system. That’s an enormous help,” says Markus Hummel.
